Various individual and team awards are given out at the Adaptive Sports USA Junior Nationals.
Individual awards include medals which will be given to the top three finishers in each event per classification, where applicable. These will be picked up at various times throughout the week. At the closing celebration, awards such as the Jay Coyner Award, Junior Nationals Spirit of Excellence Awards, the Ted Kaplan Award, and the Sports N Spokes Jr. Athlete of the Year may be given out.
A description of each award and list of past recipients can be found online at https://adaptivesportsusa.org/awards-recognition.
Team awards will be given to the top 5 teams overall. Winning teams are determined based on points. Team scores are determined using an adjusted point system. Below is an example of how overall team points are calculated.
For example, assume the team sizes range from 2 to 30 members. Take each team, in this case, and divide the number of members on the team into 30, the largest team size. So, a team with 5 members would be 30 divided by 5 which is 6. Multiply that team’s score by 6 to get the adjusted score. Assume the next team had 10 members. Do the same thing – 30 divided by 10 which is 3. Multiply that team’s score by 3 to get their adjusted score. Continue this process for all the teams and the highest adjusted score would be the winner. The next highest would be second, etc.
Independent Team Awards
Independent athletes are grouped into three teams based on region: east, central, and west. The formula used to determine team awards is also applied for Independent Team Awards to determine which region came in first, second, and third.
*Note: Team awards have been awarded in the past to small, medium, and large team groupings. In 2020, these groupings will not be used.
During the week of the event, check back daily for sport specific results. Results will also be posted at the host hotel and onsite at each sport venue.
